The International Technical Communication SIG of STC was founded in 1989 and dissolved in 2013. The focus of the SIG was localization, translation, and cross cultural communication for technology. The mission of the SIG was to develop and share information about internationalization, translation, localization, cross cultural communication, and technical communication worldwide.
The ITC SIG offered members the opportunity to work together toward a better understanding of the international marketplace for technical communication.
Members collaborated on the Global Talk newsletter and website, and shared discussions on an email list. At the STC annual conference, the ITC SIG hosted face-to-face meetings for members and prospective members and sponsored sessions and activities with vendors and related organizations. Activities included the International Pavilion to showcase speakers and topics of interest to ITC SIG members and all attendees, as well as progressions, networking lunches, and business meetings. SIG projects included development of a Translation Reader and a Localization Reader of articles which are archived in the Knowledge Base. Members acting as liaisons to particular areas of the world contributed articles to Global Talk on the state of the art in technical communication in those areas.
The ITC SIG created promotional materials:
